[Book Review] If I Stay by Gayle Forman

If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)If I Stay
by
Just listen, Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.

I open my eyes wide now.
I sit up as much as I can.
And I listen.
Stay, he says.

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?

Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters. If I Stay is a heartachingly beautiful book about the power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we all make.

“And that's just it, isn't it? That's how we manage to survive the loss. Because love, it never dies, it never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it.”

If I Stay was my first novel that I read by Gayle Forman and now I know exactly why she is so loved. The deep emotions and feelings that were expressed in this book were out of control and it definitely set me over the edge.

“Love, it never dies. It never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it. Love can make you immortal.”

After Mia gets in the car accident, her soul lingers by her body and while she is unconscious, she sees how loved she is. But the loss of her parents and her little brother are unbearable and the memories that she shares bring them back to life.

I loved Mia's character and how much she loved her family. You rarely see that in YA books anymore because they tend to focus more on rebellious stage of them or the romantic relationship. But I loved seeing Mia's conversations with her parents and it really made me sad even more. Add this one to the "Book That Made Me Cry" and go read it now!
